Announcement of Dinner Meeting, Tuesday January 26^th, 2016

We would like to announce our next dinner meeting at the Explorers Club at 46 East 70th Street, between Park & Madison. Parking garage is available near the club on 69th Street between Park & Madison. the Club rate is $34.00 for our members if parking at this garage after 5:00 pm. Members who use this garage must have their ticket stamped at the Explorers Club. There is a subway stop at 68th Street and Lexington Avenue - Hunter College Station.

The speaker will be our member Mr. Stuart Pyhrr, long time Curator-in-Charge, now Distinguished Research Curator, at the  Metropolitan Museum of Art, Department of Arms and Armor.

Mr. Pyhrr will present an overview of the Metropolitan Museum's holdings of Islamic arms and armor, the largest and most comprehensive collection of its kind in the Western Hemisphere. The talk celebrates the recent publication of Islamic Arms and Armor in The Metropolitan Museum of Art (MMA/Yale University Press, 2015), the Museum's first scholarly catalogue on the subject. Many of the works featured in the catalogue will be the subject of a special exhibition, "Arms and Armor of the Islamic World," which opens on February 10 in the Arms and Armor Department's Sulzberger Gallery.

The talk promises to be interesting education and well illustrated.

Our meeting date also coincides with The Fine Art and Antiques Show at the Seventh Regiment Armory, Park Avenue and 66th Street, between January 22 to January 31, 2016, where our member Mr. Peter Finer always has a splendid display. Our members may obtain free admission by mentioning Peter's name and the Armor and Arms Club.

The catering department at the Explorers Club requested that we will notify them a week in advance as to the number of members attending the dinner so that the caterer can plan accordingly.
